Wednesday, February 6th was a day of many emotions: Joy; that Karly’s special day had arrived, and sadness; the last time to hug and kiss her for eighteen months. Before we left Lissa’s house, Mark gave her a Father’s Blessing. Tears fell like rain.
We left for Provo plenty early, stopped at In-N-Out for a burger and fries, then drove up around the MTC, BYU campus and the ProvoTemple. We parked on a side street to get our final hugs and then at 12:29, we pulled out and drove into the ‘drop-off’ area of the MTC. There were many cars in front of us, each delivering a newly called missionary. Mark unloaded Karly’s bags onto the sidewalk. Elder Lamb, her initial missionary host, greeted us and for a moment, thought he was getting a ‘twofer’ (Hayley and Karly). When we explained that only Karly was going, he advised us to take a moment for a final hug, and we quickly complied. Then she was on her way.
